Organic Software Evolution

It is easy to claim that we are responsive to our customers' requests. The proof lies in the literally thousands of new features created to customer specifications in the last five years alone. Some of these modifications are as small as auto-filling a field to save a customer keystroke. While others include creating support for multiple production methods and BOMs for a single style that can be selected at production scheduling time. We evaluate every request, and if we think it will benefit more than one customer, we will include it in our next update. A Family Business, But Not Like The Godfather

The staff at Jonar and our customers have a remarkable average tenure with the firm. In some cases, it can be measured in decades. There is a family atmosphere that extends to how we feel about our customers, many of whom have been with us as long as our staff. We look forward to really getting to know the business that our customers are in and helping them. Our slogan has always been "It's our business to make yours better" but given that we have been using it for so long and this is a new website we thought we wouldn't use it here. Ok maybe just this once.


The Road Ahead

We are entering into a very exciting time at Jonar. After many years of working at it, we have achieved a great management succession plan. The team is expanding and upgrading its skills. New processes and tools focused on customer service are being implemented. Most importantly, a new technology strategy is being deployed. We are NOT taking the approach of catching up to the newest things on the market. We are looking to innovate. At the same time, we are determined to not lose what makes our EDI system great. The goal is to marry the unparalleled business logic already in JAS with a new technological framework that will allow for greater speeds and access any time, anywhere and on any device.

Jonar Systems Inc. opened for business in 1986. It was an auspicious year in technology and for the world in general. The first laptop was released by IBM and Microsoft went public. That same year, the first non-stop flight around the world was completed and the US banned smoking on all public transportation. Halleys Comet was visible in the sky. The Economist magazine introduced The Big Mac Index, an international, purchasing power index based on fast-food culture. A big year, and that does not even count the hair.

Jonar Systems was founded by Stephen Ruby, who after many years of running a large scale system for an apparel manufacturer, knew he had something to contribute. The original package was called A.I.M.S. (Apparel Information Management System) and like the first Ford Model-T it came in any colour you wanted, as long as it was IBM Beige. Almost all DOS applications were like that. Over the years the company and solutions evolved led by the needs of the customers but certain things have never changed. Every call during business hours is still answered by a person and not an automated voice. Jonar has always written tailored modifications to meet customer needs in timeframes measured in days and weeks rather than months and years. Listening to our customers has always served everyone pretty well, so we'll keep on doing that.
