On May 28 ‒ 29, 2018, Jonar was a sponsor and participant in the CPA Canada’s inaugural National Forum on Technology Solutions.
As a speaker in a roundtable session entitled, ERP Solutions for Today’s Industry Challenges in Manufacturing and Distribution, our Managing Director, Jon Ruby, went head-to-head with representatives of some of the biggest names in the ERP industry, including Microsoft, Sage, SAP and Epicor.
Jon challenged the assertion made by the rest of the panel that the only and best way forward for ERP technology was to focus on best practices and consulting services. “The design of the software product itself needs to get significantly better. Other segments in the software industry have taken advantage of available technology advancements during the last decade, ERP has failed to do that for the most part,” he said.
While the entire panel agreed about taking an evidence-based, methodical approach to ERP and its implementation, Jon raised the additional need for software developers to focus more on user experience. He also loudly challenged the assertion made by another member of the panel that most of the companies that would ever buy an ERP already had one and that now providers were just handing customers back and forth. Jon challenged this by explaining that more than 97% of Canadian companies had less than 50 employees and that most of those companies needed ‒ but did not currently have ‒ an ERP.
Suffice it to say, after the roundtable, the word “disruptor” was uttered by several participants in reference to Jonar’s role in the discussion and in the ERP market in general.
